Buzz’s comments on his cruise from
Panama to Valparaiso with a land excursion to Machu Picchu on the Crystal
Serenity Jan - Feb 2017
I continued my cruising on
Crystal – this trip featured two items on my bucket list: a transit through the
Panama Canal and a trip to Machu Picchu.
Neither was disappointing. The canal is an engineering and political
marvel. I recommend the book “The Path
between the Seas” to provide the background.
The trip down the west coast of South America was interesting because I
learned a lot about the history of South America that was not covered during my
schooling. Machu Picchu is another
engineering marvel and a great monument to the history of the indigenous
population that the Spanish tried to destroy.
Food onboard was very good; about the same as on my other Crystal voyages. I continued to like the specialty
restaurants: sushi at Silk Road (name of the restaurant has
been changed to Umi Uma) and Oso Buco at Prego
