Buzz’s comments on his trip to
Israel November 2012
About a week before I was going to depart for
this trip Israel and the PLO were exchanging rocket fire in hostile
conflict. I decided that I would cancel
the trip if a cease-fire was not reached 3 days before
my scheduled arrival. Exactly 3 days
before the cease-fire was reached. I flew British Airways business class to Tel
Aviv – very pleasant flights even with the change at Heathrow. I stayed in the Marriott in Tel Aviv and was
pleased with the accommodations.
Normally I liked to explore each destination on my own but I was
concerned that I might accidentally wonder into the wrong unsafe neighborhood
so I hired a guide for my ventures outside to Tel Aviv. I selected Danny the Digger since I am an amateur
archeologist and that was a great decision.
I explored Tel Aviv on my own and visited The Diaspora Museum, the
Independence Hall Museum, Nahalat Binyamin Pedestrian
Mall, the Rothschild BLVD, the Rabin Museum, the Hagana
Museum, the Haaretz Museum and the Palmach Museum.
Danny took me to Jerusalem, Haifa, Caesarea, Beit She”arim
and Zippori. In Jerusalem
we visited the Mount of Olives Observation point, Jewish Quarter, the Wailing
Wall at the site of the destruction of the second temple, the remnants of King
David’s city including the Hezekih’s Tunnel.
At each archeology site, Danny explained the
prevailing and alternate theories of the artifacts discovered until the last
day when he asked me to propose what I thought.
After I communicated my ideas, he told me that my thoughts were similar
to the prevailing theories and explained why there were alternatives.
