DESTINATION LECTURER: Ed Larson

Holder of a Ph.D. in history from University of Wisconsin and law degree from Harvard, Larson teaches at Pepperdine University.  He has lectured on seven continents and taught at Stanford Law School, University of Melbourne, Leiden University, and University of Georgia, where he chaired the History Department.  Recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in History, for his book Summer for the Gods, Larson is author of twelve books and over one hundred articles.  His latest book, The Return of George Washington, was a New York Times bestseller.  His next book, To the Edges of the Earth:  1909, Three Poles, and the Climax of the Age of Exploration, is due out next winter from HarperCollins.  His articles have appeared in such varied publications as Atlantic Monthly, Scientific American, and Wall Street Journal. Larson is interviewed frequently for broadcast, print, cable, and internet media, including The Daily Show, The Today Show, and multiple appearances on PBS, BBC, History Channel, C-SPAN, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and NPR.  Larson enjoys hiking with friends, traveling with family, and working in his garden overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

SPECIAL INTEREST LECTURER: WORLDS AFFAIRS: Ambassador Marc Charles Ginsberg

Marc Ginsberg spent his formative years in the Middle East (Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt) and was the first U.S. Ambassador of Jewish heritage to an Arab nation.  Appointed by President Clinton, he served four years in Morocco (1994-1998) and as Special Envoy for Mediterranean Trade & Security (1998 – 2001).        
Amb. Ginsberg commenced his government career as a national security legislative assistant to Senator Edward M. Kennedy (1971-1977).  During the Carter Administration he served as White House Liaison for Secretary of State Vance and Chief of Staff to Special Envoy Gov. Averell Harriman (1977-1979).  In 1979 he was appointed Deputy Senior Adviser to President Carter for Middle East Policy to support implementation of the post-Camp David Palestinian autonomy initiatives under presidential envoys Sol Linowitz and Robert Strauss .  
He earned his law degree from Georgetown University in 1978 and practiced international commercial and corporate law from 1981-1993. In 1981, he became a co-founder of Sutton Place Gourmet (now Balduccis) one of America’s largest gourmet food retail emporiums.  
Having served on many for profit and non-profit boards, and as general counsel to several corporations, both U.S. and international, Amb. Ginsberg is an expert on cross-border trade and commercial transactions – particularly in the fields of aviation, maritime, consumer exports, and manufacturing partnerships.  His expertise extends to ventures, and financial transactions in China, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe (including the European Commission).   
Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, at the request of former President George H.W. Bush and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger he co-founded and served as President of Layalina Arab television productions (www.layalina.tv) – the first U.S. Arab language television production company serving the Middle East.  
Currently, Amb. Ginsberg serves as President of the Coalition for a Safer Web, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization he founded dedicated to accelerating the permanent de-platforming of anti-Semitic and extremist incitement from social media platforms (www.coaltionsw.org).  CSW works with local law enforcement, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Pentagon to develop new strategies to intercept domestic terrorist plots found on U.S. and trans-national social media. 
Amb. Ginsberg also serves as a counterterrorism/counter extremism adviser to several Arab governments as well as to the US government and advised the Biden White House in its preparation of the newly unveiled National Strategy for Countering Domestic Extremism.  
Amb. Ginsberg appears regularly on many U.S. television and radio networks, including MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, Sirius XM POTUS, Fox Business News, Bloomberg TV and WTOP (DC CBS) radio, and is a sought-after international speaker.  Fluent in several Middle East languages he also is a commentator Arab and Israeli media outlets.

SPECIAL INTEREST LECTURER: THEATER Jim Brochu

Jim Brochu is the only actor in America to win the New York Drama Desk Award, The Washington D.C. Helen Hayes Award, the Los Angeles Ovation Award and the South Florida Carbonell Award, all for Best Actor in a Play. A native of Bay Ridge Brooklyn, Jim produced his first show, a charity revue featuring the Bay Ridge neighborhood kids, at the age of thirteen and four years later was working on Broadway – selling orange drink at the back of the St. James Theatre during intermissions of Hello, Dolly! Years later he received the Musical Diamond Award from Dolly herself, Carol Channing. He has appeared on Broadway as Andrew McLaren in Brigadoon opposite Christine Ebersole and as Mr. Brownlow in Oliver! opposite Brian Stokes Mitchell. Recently he starred at New York’s fabled Palace Theatre in Broadway Backwards with Florence Henderson, Chita Rivera and Estelle Parsons as well as well as the New York revivals of The Man Who Came to Dinner as Sheridan Whiteside and The Roar of the Greasepaint; The Smell of the Crowd as Sir. Regionally he appeared as Willy Clark opposite Theodore Bikel in Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys and as Harry Binion opposite Eddie Albert in Room Service. Over the past few years, Jim has been leading a double life – both as himself and as the great Zero Mostel in his multi-award-winning play, Zero Hour which ran for fourteen months in New York City and played over 700 performances across America and Canada. He has recently returned to night clubs and cabarets with his new show Character Man, a tribute to all the great supporting players of Broadway and the songs they introduced. He has sung in New York at Birdland, Town Hall, Feinstein’s at the Regency, the Metropolitan Room, Don’t Tell Mama, over two dozen appearances at 54 Below, most recently opposite Marilyn Maye in “Ballroom.” While working as a stage actor, he appeared in two legendary television commercials – first as a “dancing raisin” for Post Raisin Bran and then as the “Lemon from Outer Space” with Madge the Manicurist for Palmolive. Currently, Jim can be seen as Judge Vernon Windsor on the CBS drama, “The Good Fight” and as Dr. Daniel Carden on Comedy Central’s “The Other Two.” Also, a multi-Award-winning playwright, Jim is the author of two books, Lucy in the Afternoon (a memoir celebrating his friendship with Lucille Ball), his autobiography, Watching from the Wings, ten plays and three musicals including the off-Broadway and London hit, The Last Session, written with partner Steve Schalchlin which he also directed. Jim’s caricature hangs on the wall of the legendary Sardi’s Restaurant in New York, a singular tribute to a forty-year plus show business career as an actor, author, and playwright.

The Honorable Michael Bishay is a Superior Court Commissioner. He is the past Supervising Judicial Officer of Family Law and past Faculty Member of CJER which provides state-wide education and training to Judges and Commissioners. Commissioner Bishay lectures across the state of California on different legal topics. He was an Attorney and Board Certified Specialist who handled complex and high profile litigations. He also served as an FBI AnalysUContractor with Top Secret Clearance, and Adjunct Professor of Law.

Steven Rivellino is one of the leading Executive Producers, General Managers, and Business Analysts in the entertainment industry.  He is a four-time TONY™ Award winner, and the winner of three of London’s coveted Olivier Awards.  
The former Vice President and General Manager of New York's Radio City Music Hall™, Steven has produced and general-managed both on and off Broadway, and internationally— beginning his career with the TONY™ Award-winning musical  “A Chorus Line” and “The Pirates of Penzance” starring Linda Ronstadt and Rex Smith… then producing “Marlena” featuring West End star Siân Phillips, the Olivier Award-winning Best Musical “Kat & The Kings”, and “Scituate”… starring Robert Sean Leonard, Rebecca Luker, Danny Burstein, and Randy Graff.  
In 2009 he opened “The Story of My Life” (starring Malcolm Gets and Will Chase) at Broadway’s historic Booth Theatre which earned four Drama Desk Award Nominations including Best Musical, and Simon Bent’s “Prick Up Your Ears” on London’s West End.  Later that same year, he opened “Memphis” at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre… the winner of four 2010 TONY™ Awards including Best Musical.   
In 2012— he produced the Broadway revival of “Evita” starring Ricky Martin, Elena Roger, and Michael CeverisAnd in 2013 he opened “After Midnight” starring Fantastia, Dulé Hill, and featuring Wynton Marsolis’ “Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra”.  “After Midnight” earned seven TONY™ Award nominations including Best Musical.  
In 2016, Steven joined together with a team of Broadway’s finest producers for a special 15-week limited-run of Christopher Hampton’s adaptation of “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” at Broadway’s historic Booth Theatre, starring Liev Schreiber and Janet McTeer.
And in 2018, he opened the National Theatre production of Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America” starring Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield, earning 11 TONY™ Award nominations, winning Best Revival.  Also, Jez Butterworth’s Olivier Award-winning play “The Ferryman”, directed by Sam Mendes at Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre— winner of four TONY™ Awards, including Best Play 2019.
He is currently represented on Broadway by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton”— winner of 11 TONY™ Awards including Best Musical, with five additional productions of “Hamilton” touring the United States and throughout the world.
